Stabilise in Gyroflow

Gyroflow is a free desktop program that stabilises footage using the phone's gyroscope readings recorded during the shot. The result is usually smoother than the phone's own stabilisation, and you choose how much to crop afterwards.

  1. In the hardware settings set Stabilization to Off. The phone's own stabilisation moves the picture in ways the gyro data does not show, and Gyroflow then corrects the wrong motion.
  2. In the metadata settings set Gyroscopic data:
    • GPMF: the gyro track goes inside the clip, and a lens profile is saved next to it. Opens in the regular Gyroflow release;
    • gcsv: the data goes into a separate .gcsv file next to the clip, with the lens profile;
    • Protobuf: everything inside the clip, but at the time of writing only Gyroflow nightly builds read it.
  3. For RAW, use Gyroscopic data in the codec settings instead.
  4. Shoot. Use a shutter that is not too long: motion blur inside a frame cannot be removed by stabilisation, so at 24 fps 1/100 or shorter gives cleaner results for handheld walking shots.
  5. Copy the clip together with the .lensprofile.json (and .gcsv, if used) to the computer and open the clip in Gyroflow. It finds the files next to it.

If GPMF can hold only a limited length at the current bitrate, the setting shows the limit, for example "max. 40 min".
