Shoot with an anamorphic lens

An anamorphic adapter squeezes a wide image into the frame horizontally. The picture has to be stretched back (desqueezed) to look right. The app can do this on the screen only, mark the file so that editors stretch it, or stretch the recording itself.

  1. In Viewfinder settings set Desqueeze viewfinder to your lens factor, for example 1.33x. The viewfinder now shows true proportions; the recording is not changed.
  2. Set Frame lines to the aspect ratio you are framing for, for example 2.39:1.
  3. Choose how the file is handled:
    • leave the recording squeezed and set Pixel aspect ratio to Same as viewfinder in the metadata settings. Editors that read the pixel aspect ratio show the clip stretched, and you keep every recorded pixel;
    • or record through the GPU and set Desqueeze video in the GPU settings. The file is stretched for real, and plays correctly anywhere. 1920×1080 at 1.33x becomes 2552×1080.
  4. Make a test clip and check it in your editor.

Large stretched frames may exceed what the phone's encoder can record; if recording fails, lower the frame size or use the first option.
