Pull focus and zoom smoothly

A programmed pull moves focus (or zoom) between two set points at an even speed, which is hard to do by hand on a touch screen.

  1. Tap M in the Focus and zoom controls to switch to manual focus. The limit buttons and appear.
  2. Focus on the first subject with the wheel. Long-press the top or bottom limit button to set this point; the app shows Top limit set (or the bottom one).
  3. Focus on the second subject and long-press the other limit button.
  4. Tap the gear between the limit buttons and set Duration, the time of the whole pull. Start with 2 to 4 seconds. Curvature changes how the speed is spread along the way; leave the default at first.
  5. Start recording and tap the limit button of the point you want to go to. Focus moves there smoothly; the button shows , tap it again to stop early. To pull back, tap the other limit button.

Turn on focus peaking in Viewfinder settings to see both points clearly while setting them.

starts focus and zoom together: focus goes to whichever of its limits is further from where it is now, and so does zoom. Without zoom limits, zoom goes to the end of its range. Use when you want both to move, for example a slow push-in with a focus change.

A zoom move on its own works the same way as a focus pull, with the zoom limit buttons in zoom mode.

To pull focus without touching the screen, set Volume Buttons to Focus control in Control: focus moves towards the far limit while volume up is held and towards the near one while volume down is held. On the camera button or a remote the same choice works as a toggle: the first press starts the move, the second stops it. Start/stop program. focus+zoom does the same as .
