Shoot slow motion

There are two ways to get slow motion: record at a high frame rate and slow the clip down in the editor, or let the app write the file at a lower playback rate so that it plays slow everywhere.

  1. Open the video menu, tap Resolution and FPS and choose a high frame rate, for example 120 fps, and a size the phone supports at that rate. Tap Apply.
  2. If you want the file itself to play slow, set Target frame rate to your project rate, for example 24. A label with "24fps" appears on the shooting screen. Leave it Off to slow the clip down in the editor instead.
  3. Light the scene well: at 120 fps the longest shutter is 1/120, and above 60 fps many phones switch to automatic exposure.
  4. Record. With slow motion on, the sound is slowed down with the picture.

Some things to know:

  • Above 60 fps the camera works in high-speed mode, where manual settings, the GPU and some codecs are often unavailable. The picker dims what does not work.
  • At 120 fps and above, the button for mains-frequency shutter speeds has no effect. Under mains lighting, see how to remove flicker before choosing the frame rate.
  • Check the Real frame rate indicator: some phones deliver fewer frames than requested in low light.

Fast motion works the same way: shoot at a low rate (for example 6 fps) and set Target frame rate higher.
