Record good sound

  1. Connect the microphone. A USB or wired microphone replaces one of the phone's own; which one is decided by Android.
  2. In the audio menu choose Source. Unprocessed gives the cleanest signal where the phone supports it; Camcorder is a safe choice otherwise. For a Bluetooth headset choose Bluetooth; a Bluetooth label then appears among the indicators.
  3. Choose the format in Bitrate: AAC at 192 kbps or more for everyday work, PCM for editing without loss, or WAV to get the sound as a separate file.
  4. Watch the Audio level meter at the top of the screen while the subject speaks. Peaks should stay in the yellow zone and only occasionally touch red. If the sound is too quiet, raise Level; keep it at Bypass if the level is fine, since digital gain also raises noise.
  5. To listen while recording, plug in headphones and set Monitoring level. The sound never goes to the phone's speaker.

If the phone is mounted upside down, swap the channels in the audio menu so that left stays left.

With slow motion the sound is slowed down with the picture. When an external USB camera is connected, the app records without sound.
